Chicken Thing

Yep, you read that right.  Chicken Thing.

I am going to let you into a little family secret.  This is one of our favourite recipes and if you have ever been invited for dinner at our house, you will have had this.

And I am now about to blow it by showing you how easy it is to make.    Mr B likes people to think it takes him all night when he makes it but it really it isnt that complicated.

Okay it is when he does it because he does it properly with added green veg as an accompaniment, along with rice that is cooked to perfection.   When Mr B does it, it is Paprika Chicken.

When I am stumped as to what to do for dinner and have 3 minutes to sling something together, it is Chicken Thing.   With Uncle Bens microwave rice.

The Recipe is simple:

  • Chicken.  Either whole breasts or cubed.  It is up to you, either is fine
  • Paprika.
  • Oil for frying
  • Tub of creme fraiche.

Sling the chicken in a frying pan (yes sling it in, this is my recipe and that is how I cook)  with the oil and fry.   Doesn’t need to be cooked all the way through as it goes in the oven in a minute

Add paprika.   Now do not under-estimate how much paprika you put in this.   Put lots of in.   So the chicken looks like this:

It could well be half a jar but we buy our paprika in huge tubs so I can’t gauge it.  Probably a good four tablespoons.

Stir the chicken until it is all coated.  Until it looks like this:

And then add the creme fraiche.  And stir until it is all mixed and the creme fraiche is a rich brown colour.

Now shove it an oven proof bowl and cook in the oven for about 40 minutes.

Serve with rice.

If you have time then brown rice is fabulous, along with some warm mange tout or cooked cherry tomatoes.

Put in front of your guests with a big “ta dah”.

  1. Mmmm, that looks delicious. Is it “nippy” or just a lovely flavour? You also cook like I do!

Looks and sounds amazing. Wonder how it would be to sub curry for Paprika? Might be an easy Indian At-Home-Takeaway (since they don’t do that here in the US).

  3. Looks delicious. I do a few different chicken thingies but I haven’t used paprika with it like this (usually just in a kind of marinade). Is it the mild stuff, hot, or smoked?

    Your chicken thing looks yummy!

  5. Oh my, Mummy Barrow…I speak your language!! Thank you for making this easy to follow! What temperature should the oven be? x

Hi! I thought you might like it! I can take no credit though, it is all Mr B. Oven is about 180.

  6. That looks lovely and great name!

  7. Ooh, that looks delish and simple enough that even I can’t cock it up too badly. I’ll definitely try this, I think I even have all of the ingredients for it in the fridge. Oh, apart from Creme Fraiche, so 2/3 of the ingredients at least!

  8. Chicken thing….cock it up…*SNIGGER*

  9. Ahhhh, I might actually be able to manage this recipe! Thanks! *runs to Morrissons shouting ‘CHICKEN ME’*
