It is great to see plus-size fashion continuing to flourish. As you can see from this range of jeans available at Simply Be there is no shortage of choice. It is easier than it has ever been to create the perfect outfit.
It is especially refreshing to see more retailers offering jeans in 16+ sizes. Armed with the tips I share with you below you can easily find a stylish pair that flatters your figure and fits like a glove.
Figure out your body type
The first thing you need to do is to identify your body type. You can easily do this at home. This in-depth article explains exactly how to do it. Once you have identified your body shape, the advice below will be a lot more helpful and usable.
Jeans for the hourglass shape
If you are a bit on the hippy side, you will want to avoid skinny cuts. Instead, go for a flared or wide leg. Boot-cut jeans can also work for this body type.
Buying jeans for the inverted pyramid body type
Women with a pyramid type body, typically, have legs that look relatively slim in relation to the rest of their body. A close-fitting style can work really well. If you do opt for this style buy a pair that is made from good-quality stretch denim. Complete your look by emphasising your slimmer looking legs by choosing looser fitting tops.
Jeans for the classic triangle body shape
For this body shape, a pair of slightly flared jeans tends to work best. They will help to balance out your narrower upper body shape and make you look less hippy.
Buying for a pear-shaped body
Most women are pear-shaped. If you are one of them, show off your feminine curves with a pair of close-fitting jeans. The good news is that all cuts can work for this body type. Add in a pair of heels to elongate your legs.
Jeans for the diamond shape body
This is a fairly rare body type. Women with a waistline that is fuller than their bust or hips fit into this category. They usually look best in straight or boot cut styles.
OK, so that covers the cuts, now for a few general plus-size jean buying tips.
Not too tight
Jeans are great at holding things in and smoothing out some of the bulges. This is particularly the case if you buy a pair that has been made from thick or closely woven denim. However, you do need to be a bit careful with this approach. If you choose ones that are too tight all that will happen is that everything will be displaced and bulge over the top. So, try to resist the temptation to use your jeans as an alternative to shapewear or a corset.
Check freedom of movement
You need to make sure that you can still move freely while wearing your jeans. So, when you try them on be sure to crouch and bend over. If they cut in painfully or restrict your movement too much it is wise to choose another pair.
