If you’re looking for a delightful day out in the heart of England, Shaftesbury is a town that should be at the top of your list. Located in the picturesque county of Dorset, Shaftesbury boasts historic streets, stunning viewpoints, and is where we are headed this weekend so I have been doing some digging on where to eat and what to sea.
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at one of Shaftesbury’s charming local cafes. Consider visiting “The Salt Cellar”, the “Ugly Duckling Cafe” or “Number 5 Coffee Shop” for a delicious meal to kickstart your adventure.
After breakfast, it’s time to explore the iconic Gold Hill. This steep, cobbled street is famous for its picturesque beauty and has been featured in numerous films and advertisements. It’s perhaps best known for its appearance in the classic Hovis bread advert, making it an iconic location in British advertising history. Take a leisurely stroll, admire the quaint cottages, and capture some Instagram-worthy photos to share with your followers.
Lunch:
For a lunch spot that’s buzzing on Instagram, make your way to “The Mitre Inn.” This traditional British pub offers a menu filled with mouthwatering dishes and provides a charming setting that’s sure to make your followers envious. Don’t forget to snap a photo of your meal to share with your friends!
Afternoon:
After a delicious lunch, explore the unique shops and boutiques on Shaftesbury High Street. You’ll find a variety of souvenirs, antiques, and local crafts to take home as mementos.
History enthusiasts should pay a visit to the Shaftesbury Heritage Centre, where you can delve deeper into the town’s rich past.
To end your afternoon on a high note, drive to one of Shaftesbury’s famous viewpoints, such as Melbury Hill or Win Green Hill. From these vantage points, you can take in breathtaking views of the surrounding Dorset countryside.
Evening:
We booked the gorgeous Grosvenor Arms Hotel, located in the heart of Shaftesbury for our overnight stay This historic hotel offers a charming and comfortable stay, ensuring you’re well-rested for the next day’s adventures as the beds were super comfy.
Parking:
Parking in Shaftesbury can be limited, and certainly none of the city centre car parks have their own, but there are a few options:
- Bell Street Car Park: This centrally located car park is close to the Grosvenor Arms Hotel. Parking rates may vary, so it’s advisable to check the current prices on the day of your visit.
- Coppice Street Car Park: Another nearby option, slightly further from the town centre. Ensure you confirm the parking rates when you arrive.
Now, you’re all set for a delightful day out in Shaftesbury. Enjoy the charming streets, historic sites, and delectable dining options that this Dorset town has to offer!
