What?
Yes dear reader. You heard me. In just five minutes you can be eating warm freshly made cake. From a mug. And it couldn’t be more simple. I made a couple yesterday and took one round to my granny for tea. Let me tell you, it takes some explaining to a granny who is used to doing things properly. “In the micro, dear?” “in five minutes?” <shakes head>
So here is my recipe for a chocolatey orange cake in a mug in five minutes. Let’s face it, it is not going to be the best cake you have ever tasted, it is slightly on the heavy side, but if you want something easy to do with the children one rainy cold afternoon then this is it. Dollop some ice cream on the top and Bob’s your auntie’s live in lover as we say round these parts.
- 4 tbs flour
- 4 tbs caster sugar
- 1 tbs cocoa
- 1 egg
- 3 tbs milk
- 3 tbs vegetable oil
- 1 tsp of orange extract
- 1 tbs of chocolate chips / chopped nuts / chopped cherries whatever you fancy
- Add each ingredient to the mug, one at at time stirring after you add each new ingredient.
- Place mug in microwave and cook on full power.
- We have a super powerful microwave so it only takes 2 minutes 20 seconds in ours but it might be nearer 3 minutes in a less powerful oven.
Pour cream over it, or ice cream on top and there you have it, all ready to serve. No mess, no washing up other than the mug itself.
If you are making it with small children do be careful as the mug will be very hot
Not quite correct !
Pat’s out – 5 minutes after she gets back [plus 2 minutes to hang up her coat]
Sounds so good!!! Trying this tonight with Sunday night tv x
Love it! I just bought a whole book of meals in a cup, I doubt I will get past cake, but seeing this who cares. Looks yum – I should have saved my pennies and just tried this 🙂
