Simple Ways to Brighten Up Your Home

This is a partnered post

The sun is getting brighter, the days are getting longer and the smell of freshly cut grass is in the air – spring is finally here!

It is surprising how much happier you feel when things are a bit brighter, lighter and warmer, isn’t it?

So, to coincide with sunlight pouring through an open window, why not brighten up your home to put you in good mood both inside and outside?

Plants and Flowers

Arguably, one of the quickest and easiest ways to brighten up your home this spring is with a bunch of flowers in a beautiful vase or a colourful plant in a bright pot.

The tropical and exotic looking Amaryllis, with their spectacular blooms, are perfect for this – as are daffodils, peonies and tulips.

Not only will they add colour to your home, they will also ensure it smells sweet too.

Hang artwork

Are your walls looking a bit bare? It’s quick and easy to brighten them up with some artwork. Why not create a feature wall? Mix and match frames and fill them with your favourite prints.

Similarly, you could add wall decals to brighten up plain walls – these can be easily removed or changed as and when you please – so don’t be afraid to tie them in with the season.

A lick of paint

This doesn’t mean you have to repaint every wall, you could simply paint some furniture – which is quicker, easier and cheaper, but has the same desired effect.

Take that old chest of drawers in your bedroom, which was once dark brown but has since faded over time. Bring this back to life and add some colour to your bedroom by giving it a lick of paint – this can be as bright or subtle as you wish.

Update furnishings

Another easy way to brighten up your home and add a splash of colour is by updating your furnishings. Rugs, cushions, lampshade and throws – all in spring colours – will be perfect to lift the room and your spirits. Again, this can easily be changed back to darker colours, if you wish, when we head back towards winter.

Add mirrors

The more shine style surfaces you add to a room, the lighter it will appear.  A well-placed mirror can brighten and open up any room, as it makes the most of a room’s natural light. You might want to consider a full-length mirror between two windows, two mirrors on adjacent walls, or a mirror across from a window.

Clean it!

Have you thought that your home might look a bit dark and dingy because it is covered in a layer of dust and just needs a clean? Spring, of course, is the perfect time to have a deep clean, so set aside a few days, dig out your cleaning products and scrub every corner of your home. As you go make sure you throw out the rubbish and tidy up the clutter.

You don’t have to redecorate your entire home to brighten it up, just a few small changes can make a really big difference.
