Aalgo Seaweed Skincare — a review

I was recently sent a product to try that I hadn’t come across before. It’s called Aalgo, a powdered seaweed skincare treatment, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But it has turned out to be something quite special.

Aalgo is a small, family-run Irish business that has been around for over 25 years. They harvest 100 percent organic seaweed by hand from the clean waters off the west coast of Ireland. It is then dried using traditional methods, with absolutely nothing added. No preservatives, no perfumes, no chemicals. Just pure seaweed. The idea is simple. Seaweed is packed with vitamins and minerals that support skin health, and Aalgo is all about using that natural power to soothe and heal.

The product comes as a fine powder, similar in texture to clay. You mix it with warm water to create a paste, which can then be applied to the skin as a mask or added to bathwater. It is suitable for all skin types and has been used for conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne and general dryness or irritation. It is even gentle enough to use on babies, which tells you how mild and safe it is.

For me, it could not have arrived at a better time. I had been struggling with eczema on my wrist for a while. Steroid cream worked, but I didn’t want to rely on it long term. I wanted to find something natural that would calm my skin and support healing, without side effects or the worry of overuse. So I started using Aalgo once a day, applying the paste directly to my wrist.

It’s a bit messy and smells very faintly of the sea, but in a clean, earthy way. After letting it dry, I would rinse it off and gently pat my skin dry. Within just a few days, I noticed the itching had eased. The redness began to fade and the dry, tight feeling softened. I kept using it daily for a week, and since then, every couple of days. The improvement has been clear and lasting. I haven’t needed to use steroid cream since.

What I like most is how gentle it feels. There is no sting, no tightness, no overpowering scent. Just soft, soothed skin. I have also tried using it in the bath, which is a lovely experience in itself. It turns the water slightly cloudy, and afterwards, my skin feels calm and clean in a way that no bubble bath has ever managed. It also works as a soothing facemask which on my tired menopausal skin has been an absolute blessing. It is good to know that there are no nasties in it and that my skin is being treated to something truly natural and soft.

Aalgo is not a quick fix. It is not a product that promises miracles overnight. But it does offer genuine care. It works with your skin, not against it, and it supports healing in a way that feels safe and sustainable.

For full transparency, this was sent to me as a product to review. There was no expectation that I would write about it, and certainly no pressure to speak positively. I’m writing this because it really did help me, and I think it could help others too — especially those who are trying to move away from medicated creams and find more natural solutions.

You can find out more on their website at www.aalgo.com, where they explain the different ways to use it and the conditions it can help with. I will definitely be keeping a pouch of it in the bathroom cupboard now.
