I don’t know about you but I have never been away somewhere before where it was possible to experience daylight 24 hours a day. It still blows my mind that if you fly to the Faroe Islands from London in the summer it takes just two hours and you can do exactly that. It also means you wont sleep for a week because you will be lying in bed saying “gosh isnt it LIGHT?” every fifteen minutes.
The above photo is the view from our hotel room at the Hotel Foroyar in Torshavn at 9pm on the longest day of the year.
This is how it looked at 11.08pm:
And this is the view a few hours later at 3.11am
I can’t really explain how cool it is to be able to sit up in bed reading by natural night at 3am. I mean, by 11am when you are unable to stay awake it is not so cool, it is actually really annoying but at 3am for a week on holiday it is fabulous.
And is one of the reasons The Faroes Islands are high up on my list of places I am now telling people they really need to visit.
