Few wine regions conjure up as much quiet reverence as Burgundy — especially when it comes to whites which is why I would say white Burgundy is my favourite wine. So when a curated case of white Burgundy arrived from Naked Wines, featuring names like Dominic Hentall, Benjamin Laroche, and Christophe et Fils, I knew we were in for something special.
Before diving into the wines themselves, it’s worth understanding a little about Naked Wines’ unique approach if you haven’t come across them before. Unlike traditional retailers, Naked Wines works by connecting wine lovers directly with independent winemakers. Customers, called “Angels,” pay a monthly subscription upfront which goes straight to funding these winemakers during the growing season. This direct support helps winemakers focus on quality without the pressure of large-scale distribution costs. In return, Angels get access to exclusive wines at great prices — a win-win for drinkers and producers alike. Its’s like being a part of a very special wine club that gives you access to wines you can’t buy in supermarkets.
The bottles we received were carefully chosen examples of what Chardonnay can be when it’s grown with restraint, crafted with character, and allowed to speak for itself. White burgundy is my favourite style of wine so this box was going to have a lot to live up to.
The Wines
Dominic Hentall Macon-Villages 2023
An approachable, fruit-forward wine that makes a brilliant introduction to white Burgundy. Crisp and fresh with notes of citrus and green apple, it’s clean and uncomplicated — in the best possible way. A lovely wine to sip on a sunny evening or pair with simple grilled fish.
Dominic Hentall Saint-Véran 2022
This was a clear step up in richness and complexity. Still elegant and restrained, but with more weight on the palate and a whisper of oak which I adore. Think ripe pear, almond skins, and a slightly creamy texture which would make it a joy with roast chicken. It has the grown up feel you would expect from a Saint-Véran, but still feels modern and (almost too) drinkable.
Christophe et Fils Vieilles Vignes Chablis 2022
This was one of the standout bottles for me. Made from older vines, it had depth and concentration, with classic Chablis notes of lemon, wet stone, and oyster shell. Taut and mineral-driven, it’s the kind of wine that instantly transports you to northern Burgundy. It cried out for oysters and I wish I’d had some but on a wet May evening in north Hampshire they are a tad scarce!
Le Manufacture Chablis 2022 – Benjamin Laroche
A slightly more generous style of Chablis, though still beautifully balanced. Think white flowers, subtle peach, and a light saline note on the finish. There’s something polished about this one — refined, yet easy to enjoy. It would pair wonderfully with a goat’s cheese tart or a seafood risotto.
Overall Impression
This case from Naked Wines really hit the sweet spot between accessibility and sophistication. None of the wines felt intimidating or overly intellectual, but each one showed off a different facet of Burgundy’s magic.
I especially appreciated the chance to taste the difference between the mineral edge of Chablis and the rounder styles of Macon and Saint-Véran. And with winemakers like Dominic Hentall and Benjamin Laroche behind the bottles, you really feel like you’re drinking something crafted with care — not churned out for mass shelves.
Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely. If you’re a fan of Chardonnay — or even if you think you aren’t — this case is a fantastic way to explore how varied and beautiful it can be. It’s also a great reminder that you don’t need to spend a fortune to drink well from Burgundy. Naked Wines do wine brilliantly and whether you just want to find bottles from regions or producers you already know and love, or want to try something new Naked is a great place to start.
Thank you, Naked Wines — I’ll definitely be seeking out more from these producers.
