Summer Fun In the Garden- For Kids and Adults

Summer is just around the corner! That means sunshine and dry weather will allow you to actually finally be able to enjoy your back garden. Sometimes, a garden is all you need to entertain your children all summer long. Make sure that it is well equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable time.

My first piece of advice if you are searching for fun ways to enjoy your outside space is to make sure you have a space that you actually want to spend time in! Some brightly coloured flowers, a few twinkling fairy lights, and even a few pieces of designer garden furniture will make all the difference in how you see your garden. Think about it, would you really want to spend that much time inside your home if it had peeling wallpaper, wobbly chairs, and dull, flickering light bulbs? Probably not. The same is true for your garden. Creating a nice space will encourage you to have fun outside, rain or shine.

Once you have set the mood, it is important to prepare entertainment for all occasions. That includes just a little time alone with just your significant other- no kids. The garden is just the place to enjoy a well-deserved al fresco meal with your partner. Be sure to use proper furniture, make sure that it is comfortable, or if you prefer, lay down a blanket for a more informal and relaxed feel.

You should also make sure that the food is portable and low-maintenance so that you do not have to keep running back inside to get things and check on hot food. Examples of appropriate garden picnic foods include crudités, salads, and things that can be grilled outside. This ultimately leaves more time for you and your partner to enjoy each other’s company.

If you are in the mood for a relaxing day for yourself, while simultaneously keeping the children entertained, the garden can beat all sorts of summer boredom. For a very hot day, consider initiating (or at least allowing) a water balloon fight. This will double as a way of beating the heat and a fun way to get exercise and keep the kids engaged.

If fighting doesn’t suit your parenting, try tossing a water balloon around, trying not to burst it. Each turn, the player can take a step back, making it harder and harder until eventually it bursts and the winner is crowned.

If your whole family is itching to get outside and enjoy the beautiful summer day, there are plenty of things that you can do together. If you happen to be a family who enjoys gardening, it can be a wonderful way to bond. Using teapots, jugs, and colanders, you and your kids can pot ready-grown plants of all different colours together. This is a fun way of introducing the whole family to the beauty nature has to offer. It can also be very educational.

If you are looking to enjoy a low-budget summer filled with fun activities for the whole family, it is not unattainable. All it requires is a little planning and a lot of creativity.
