Chocolate Waffle Cake is a showstopper of a cake
This morning the ever gorgeous Kelly from DomesticGoddesque tagged me on Facebook to alert me to a chocolate waffle cake that another blogger had made. This is the video of that creation, it has a stack of Nutella in it and looks heavenly.
As you know I love trying out things on our Smart Waffle and there is little I haven’t waffled, but I have yet to try cake. So I thought I would give it a go. I didn’t use the recipe in the video, but decided to use a standard Victoria sponge recipe. I did however take the advice of NOT touching the waffles until they had completely cooled down as they are very fragile. It is a great tip and makes all the difference.
Then in true Barrow style I went a bit off piste. You see we have Nutella but we don’t have a piping bag. And actually I wondered if all that Nutella might make it a bit too sweet for our liking. So when I was in Sainsburys (as we didn’t have any strawberries) I found that you can get icing in a squirty can. Oh hello.
- 200g caster sugar
- 200g softened butter
- 50g cocoa
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 200g self-raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 can of spray icing
- 1 tub of strawberries
- Spray oil for greasing the waffle machine
- Spray each part of waffle machine with oil
- Put all the cake ingredients in a mixer and beat until two shades lighter and fluffy
- Spoon enough into the waffle machine to fill each side
- Close lid and cook for two minutes
- ALLOW TO COOL COMPLETELY
- Repeat for all mixture
- Assemble
So it is layered waffled cake, squirty icing (this is vanilla, but you could do chocolate or strawberry) and then threw chopped strawberries in around the edges so they poked out a bit.
Et voila.
What do you think?! Looks quite yummy doesn’t it? Even if I do say so myself
Get in mah belly
errr four stars?!! Only four?
Oh my goodness, how was it?????
wow!
WOW!
That is some creation; how many calories per gm?
So excited this is my SECOND comment. Sorry.
No calories. Its only a bit of flour and egg. Oh and some butter. And the cocoa has no sugar in it. And strawberries. Practically a health food.
