It’s the time of year when we’re all thinking about how we can give, not just to our friends and family, but to the wider community and those marginalised people who can really use it. As such, you might be thinking about what you can do for your favourite charity to help a little bit more this year, and here are a few suggestions.
Volunteer your time
One of the biggest ways you can help a charity is to step up and volunteer to do some work for them for no pay, whether it’s only temporarily or you aim to make it a more recurring part of your life. There are many benefits of volunteering, as well. Aside from the warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart, it can help connect you to a community and give you a broader awareness of the world around you, including the hardships faced by some in the community who don’t often get the attention they need.
Make a donation
Of course, aside from your time, charities are never going to turn down whatever donations you can make. The simplest way to donate to charity is to give them some money, whether it’s a one-time donation or you make a recurring donation. However, you can also look to see if they have a need for any physical donations, as well. For instance, charities that help the poor often are looking for blankets, warm clothing, and the like during the winter months.
Start a fundraiser
If you want to do more than give your own money away, then how about asking others to give theirs away, as well? There are a lot of fun ways to raise money for charity, from bake sales to fun runs and so on. Find whichever method gets you the most excited and take advantage of the generous spirit of the season.
Spread the word
If you’re not able to materially give anything and you can’t spare the time to volunteer or do a fundraiser, then try not to feel too bad. You can still play a role in helping the charity achieve their goals by spreading the word about them on social media or directly to your friends. You can learn more about how the charity helps others, exactly, and this may, in turn, motivate those around you to think about how they can help as well.
Ask the organisation
Want to help an organisation but you’re not entirely sure how to do it? If you can’t make your own donation, then simply get in touch with the charity that you have in mind. Many of them are well aware of their own needs and what they’re missing and they could make some recommendations for you to follow. Just be aware of what you’re able and willing to give.
If you can make some type of material or monetary contribution, then your charity of choice is always going to welcome that. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s the only way that you can help them. Hopefully, the suggestions above show that.
