Hogwarts At Christmas — A review

Hogwarts At Christmas — A review I have been trying really hard not to mention Christmas until December.   I don’t want to even think about it until after E’s birthday mid November, not even have it on my radar.  But this year I had no choice.   Well I did have a choice, of course I did, but sometimes rules are made to be broken.   Especially when it involves Hogwarts.   An

It is only up the road and when the teens want to do something with their mates it is always our first stop.   J decided he wanted to go this week with a couple of mates and experience Fright Night. Mr B experiences Fright Night seven

What to do on a rainy day in Barbados

It’s a fact that it rains in Barbados.   You don’t get an island as green as Barbados without some rain.  And if you come in the summer you have to appreciate it will rain, possibly everyday.  HOWEVER, it generally rains over night, or first thing in the morning.   Sometimes you get the odd shower during the day though, although it is rare that it rains all day.  But on rainy

Barbados is so laid back it IS horizontal

I always find it takes a while to get into a holiday.  To wind down and to feel that “ahhhh I am on holiday finally” feeling. And I know that all islands are sort of horizontal because if they were vertical we would all fall off them, but Barbados feels more horizontal than most. For the past few years we have been coming to Barbados to a villa that is

Warner Bros Studio tour — The Making of Harry Potter

Warner Bros Studio tour — The Making of Harry Potter   “What shall we do for the day when we meet up with your uncle Gavin on August 3rd?”  said my mum.   My uncle is younger than me (long story) and lives in the US.  He was over here for three weeks with his wife and two children and the only day we were free to meet up with them,

Family cruising with Royal Caribbean — A review

It was during a recent episode of the cruise on BBC2 just as theywere talking about the average age of their customer being 68 that an email came through with our itinerary for a day aboard The Independence of the Seas.  Mr B’s heart sank but I reassured him that Royal Caribbean cruises were as far removed from the ship in front of us on the TV as it was

London Dungeon — A review

London Dungeon — A review When I was asked if I would like to review the London Dungeons I wasn’t sure I could. Not because of any constraints on our diary but because I had heard it was super scary.   So scary that grown women had to leave via the nearest “emergency exit”.   Hmm well that sounds like a challenge to me and having done Thorpe Park scary rides, well

The Cavendish Hotel, London. A review

The Cavendish Hotel, London. A review It has been the craziest start to the year.  For all sorts of reasons.  Most of them self inflicted.   So when the chance to review a hotel came up we were quite hugely excited.  “Pick a date” they said.  So we did, for half term so that we didn’t have to worry about getting home to do the school run or calling in a

Explanations on a postcard please

You know sometimes you see something and you think “er, what?”   or even “how on earth?” Well I do that every time I see this.   So much so that this time we stopped to take a pic of it so I could capture it and ask your opinion of how this has come about: What was it? Where is the rest of it? Was it built there? Did

The best things in life are free

….. a great lyric from a much covered song. And actually it is true sometimes. Yesterday Mr B and I found “our beach”.    A spot we discovered on our honeymoon and thought that, due to lots of building work over subsequent years, it had been lost forever. Back in 2008 we had stopped for fuel and realised it was lunch time so thought we would grab some

Aloe Aloe

I just wanted to share this picture with you. This is aloe vera growing naturally and it is everywhere on Barbados. You simply cut off a leaf, slit it open and then slide the cool gel out.   One of those leaves would probably be enough to fill 200ml tube back home. *Gregg Wallace voice*  Sunburn relief doesn’t get much fresher than that.
