“… but, mum, it is raining” “… and? Two weeks ago we wrote in the diary that we were going to the beach today and, therefore we are. Get up” And so it came to pass that we found ourselves off out for the day to Southsea (not Southend as I suggested on Twitter). When I say “we” I mean the Webb family (plus Miss W’s boyfriend) and our lot.

“Wrist Slap Wednesday”
I made no secret on Twitter of the fact that I was off to get my wrist slapped on Wednesday night. I had been “flashed” doing 38mph in a 30mph zone about a month ago and this was my punishment. I knew as soon as I saw the van parked in the layby that I had been caught. I just thanked my lucky stars it hadn’t been half a

An Open Letter
Dear Politician / Footballer / Celebrity Just what is it that you think you have that makes you so special? That makes you above the law? That you think allows you to live by a different set of rules from the rest of us? You came into the world the same as the rest of us and, therefore, deep down, you are just like the rest of us. And you

My most amazing lunch
Games of “I will show you mine if you show me yours” usually end in one of three ways these days: divorce / an injunction / resigning from The One Show. But that was the conversation a friend and I had recently that ended slightly differently, with the most amazing lunch. You see I discovered that he is a member of “The Club at the Ivy”. I had heard of

Update to “Would You Complain….?”
I had a big response to my post on whether I should complain about shocking driving I witnessed, telling me I should name and shame the company. I haven’t done that, but here is the email I sent to them this morning. I wonder if I will get a response. Good afternoon I live in Hampshire and followed one of your vans on Wednesday afternoon for about ten miles from

Would you complain?
My school run is a 28 mile round trip and takes me about an hour twice a day. So I do a lot of driving and also witness a lot of other drivers. Today I followed a van that really took the biscuit. It started when he overtook me on a straight piece of road, thereby exceeding the speed limit and then causing me to brake as he needed to

Tuesday Chuckle — Week 2
This is another one of “my stories” and the one from my time living in Saudi Arabia that makes Mr B chuckle. I spent six years living in Saudi Arabia in the early 90s, living on a compound with other western ex-pats who all worked for the same “Principal”. For principal, read member of the Royal Family. That was our way of referring to Him within the office. One

Workplace Rituals
Chances are you work in an office. Most people do. I do too, I suppose, but mine is at home. Normally in the “front room” on the desktop. Or if there is something I have cheekily recorded on the Sky planner that needs watching and deleting before Mr B gets home, on the laptop in the lounge. Working from home is a lonely old business. The benefits for me

“…but it’s free”
If something is free does that mean that we have to put up with shoddy service when something goes wrong? No, I don’t believe it does. A rival blogging site: Blogger, has been “down” for a couple of days now. Anything posted on it since Wednesday has been removed. Hopefully to be restored. A number of people on Twitter have been saying “well it is free, what do you expect”.

Useful things for a picnic
As my blog evolves I am thinking of what to do with it. I don’t really want it to have one particluar slant such as just me as a mum / property / food / reviewing stuff etc. I love things I have seen on other blogs such as “Silent Sunday” where you just post a picture that sums up your week, no words. Just a picture. I will definitely

Should it be possible to obtain a super injunction?
You cannot read a newspaper, hear a news bulletin or read very far on your Twitter timeline without there being mention of an injunction or super injunction at the moment. Should being able to obtain a super injunction be allowed, though? I don’t think it should. Whilst I agree that everybody is entitled to a private life, celebrities and the wealthy included and that their every movement should not be
